My apologies for the silent blog and twitter account as of late. I’m one of those sorts that can’t focus on more that one project at a time, and for the first two months of the year, my attentions were turned toward a design project for Acholi Beads, a fair trade jewelry company working with an amazing group of women in Uganda. So many good things are going on there, I hope you’ll take a minute to check it out!
And though it’s not chocolate related, I would love for you to check out a blog post that I had the opportunity to write for them, and hopefully get an idea of what sort of a difference dignified and fairly compensated work can make in someone’s life. After being in Uganda and spending time with people who are affected positively by fair business practices, I am now thoroughly convinced that supporting businesses that support their workers is a very real and important way to create a positive impact in our world.
That said, Global Exchange has put together an excellent list of ways to get involved in justice issues within the chocolate industry- from shopping to advocacy. I hope you’ll get involved, and remember to find @bakeitforward on Twitter for some last minute Easter candy shopping tips.
