Ethical Chocolate Bar of the Week: September 25

The Divine Mint Dark Chocolate bar

PhotobucketThe smooth nutty dark chocolate in this bar encapsulates little crispy bits of peppermint to create what I can only put into words as, “Christmas in my mouth.” (Or Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmahanukkwanzakah – I’m not partial). It may only be September, but it’s never too early for an epic holiday party in your mouth, so go out and get one!

Here’s where to find it.

This also may go really well with those baked goods you’re going to be creating on Bake Forward Day THIS TUESDAY.

Divine chocolate is 45% owned by the farmers who produce their cocoa at the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative in Ghana. It’s also certified by Fair Trade USA. That makes for a winning combo if you ask us.

The Madecasse 70% cocoa bar

Photobucket

Just as the description on the back of the package claims, “this is beyond chocolate.” Its intensely fine dark chocolate should be a delicacy because eating it makes you feel like you should also be sipping chardonnay at the Sebonack Golf Club and discussing the weather with acquaintances. Except you don’t have to spend a million dollars.

Here’s where to find it (other than the Sebonack Golf Club, of course).

Madecasse’s ethical impact goes far beyond that of Fair Trade and Organic certification. Sourced wholly from Madagascar, the cocoa is bought for prices higher than fair trade and the chocolate bars themselves are produced and packaged in Madagascar, creating high quality jobs. They’re also extremely environmentally friendly.  Read about it here.

The Green & Black’s Organic White Chocolate Bar

Those tormented by that infamous sweet tooth will find relief here. With only 30% cocoa, there’s plenty of sugar and vanilla to make up for the rest. But careful, its creamy taste is addicting.

Here’s where to find it.

Along with being certified organic, this Green & Blacks bar is now certified by Fair Trade USA:
